A transport strike organized by several Spanish truckers’ unions has created a tear in the country’s supply chain and temporarily idled operations at Orvana Minerals’ Orovalle copper-gold operation in the Rio Narcea Gold Belt of northern Spain.
The operation, also known as OroValle/El Valle or EVBC, has not been receiving its materials in a timely manner since the national strike began on 14 March.
Orvana officials said the unions are striking over rising fuel prices as well as working conditions, and that the supply chain disruptions are being felt across all of Spain’s sectors.
“The company is monitoring the situation that is affecting Spain on a nation-wide basis and will provide further updates as material developments occur as it relates to the operations at Orovalle. Orvana intends to resume normal production at Orovalle when transportation services restart,” the miner said.
Meantime, it said it will be examining any and all ways it can to restart operations.
Orvana acquired the EVBC operation through its 2009 takeover of Kinbauri Gold. In June 15, it changed the subsidiary name to OroValle Minerals.
